Qualifying life events
Qualifying life events are events such as: marriage, birth of a child, divorce, your dependents gaining or losing coverage, etc. These events allow you to change your benefits during the plan year, outside of annual enrollment. The important thing to remember is that you must process these changes within 31 days of that event occurring! You can read more about qualifying life events on the ERS Life Changes.
Annual Enrollment
All benefits-eligible employees may update their benefits package once a year; this typically occurs over the summer months to change their benefits for the next plan year. The HR Benefits Team communicates to all faculty and staff when annual enrollment dates are available. Additionally, ERS will mail everyone a packet each year before annual enrollment begins.
