Understand what Title IX means, what conduct may be covered, what support is available, and how to report a concern.

Title IX in Plain Language

Title IX protects people from sex-based discrimination in educational programs and activities at institutions that receive federal financial assistance, including UHD.

In practical terms, UHD must respond to sexual misconduct and other forms of prohibited sex-based discrimination in a fair and appropriate way. Title IX supports a learning and working environment where people are not excluded, treated unfairly, or subjected to prohibited conduct because of sex.

Conduct Covered by Policy

The Sexual Misconduct Policy applies to faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Covered conduct may include:

Sexual assault

Non-consensual sexual contact

Stalking

Sexual exploitation

Dating or domestic violence

Sexual harassment

Support May Be Available Without a Formal Complaint

Making a report does not automatically begin a formal grievance process. A person may contact Title IX / EOS to ask questions, understand options, explore resources, or request supportive measures.

Supportive measures may include:

Counseling resources
Course-related adjustments
Work or class schedule changes
Campus escort services
Contact restrictions
Work or housing changes
Leaves of absence
Additional safety measures

Supportive measures are offered as appropriate and reasonably available, without fee or charge, whether or not a formal complaint has been filed.

Reporting Sexual Misconduct Concerns

Any person may report sexual misconduct to the Title IX Coordinator in person, by mail, by email, by telephone, or through the University’s electronic reporting system.

Employees should remember:

You do not need proof before reporting.
You are not expected to investigate.
Do not promise complete confidentiality if your role requires reporting.
Prompt reporting helps connect people with support and may preserve important options.

The University strongly encourages reporting as soon as possible. Prompt reporting may help preserve evidence and options that may become more limited over time.
